Fireclay tiles / fireclay
What are fireclay tiles?
Fireclay tiles are high-temperature resistant molded parts made of fired clay, which consist mainly of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) and silicon dioxide (SiO₂). These refractory materials are characterized by their excellent heat storage capacity, their mechanical stability and their high temperature resistance - even under permanent loads of over 1,000 °C.
Thanks to their insulating properties and ability to release heat evenly over a longer period of time, fireclay tiles are primarily used in heating systems and industrial plants. They are used where reliable heat storage, durability and safety are required - for example in electric storage heaters, sauna heaters, ceramic kilns or industrial heat treatment systems.
Thanks to their dimensional stability and resistance, fireclay tiles can be manufactured exactly to customer requirements - both in standard dimensions and in individual geometries for special applications.
Differences: Storage plate vs. firebrick
Although the terms Storage disk and Fireclay brick are often used synonymously, there are technical and functional differences that play a role in the planning of heating systems in particular:
Fireclay storage plates
These panels are specially designed for this purpose, Absorb heat and release it evenly over a longer period of time. As a rule, they have a Flat, rectangular shape and are often used in electric storage heaters, Sauna heaters or Pizza ovens used. Its focus is on the Heat storage and radiation.
Typical features:
Large surface area for optimum heat storage
Mostly machine-made with tight dimensional tolerances
Optimized for stationary installation in heating systems
Fireclay bricks
Fireclay bricks, on the other hand, are more classic Refractory brickswhich are often referred to as Lining of combustion chambers or furnaces serve. Above all, they must withstand high temperatures and direct exposure to flames. Their storage capacity is also present, but is not the main focus.
Typical features:
Mostly smaller, more compact formats
High mechanical load capacity
Can be flexibly stacked or walled
While heat-storage plates targeted to Heat storage and release are used for Fireclay bricks primarily the Fire resistance and protection of oven interiors. The material basis is similar - the application determines the optimum product choice.
Advantages for electrical applications
Fireclay tiles and bricks have a number of advantages when used in electrically operated heating systems. In combination with Quartz heating elementswhich are known for their fast heat-up time and efficient heat transfer, a particularly powerful heating system is created.
Excellent heat storage
Fireclay can absorb large amounts of heat and release it evenly over a longer period of time. In combination with electric heating elements, this ensures constant heat distribution and contributes to improved energy efficiency.
Electrical insulation
As fireclay is electrically non-conductive, it can be used safely in direct contact with heating coils or heating rods. It not only serves as a heat accumulator, but also as a safe carrier for electric heating systems.
Dimensional stability and durability
Even at permanently high temperatures, fireclay remains dimensionally stable and mechanically resilient. This leads to a long service life and reduces the amount of maintenance required during operation.
Wide range of applications
Whether in storage heaters, sauna heaters, industrial heating processes or special solutions - fireclay tiles can be flexibly adapted to different requirements. Custom-made products are just as possible as the use of standardized formats.
Areas of application
Fireclay tiles and bricks are used wherever high temperatures, controlled heat storage and reliable insulation are required. They have proven themselves in numerous applications, particularly in combination with electric heating elements.
Electric storage heaters
In modern night storage heaters, fireclay panels serve as heat storage units that absorb energy generated at low cost at night and release it evenly during the day. Their high storage capacity ensures efficient and continuous heat output.
Sauna heaters
Fireclay is used in electric sauna heaters to safely bed the heating elements and distribute the heat evenly inside the heater. The even heat development ensures a pleasant sauna climate and protects the heating elements from direct contact with water or infusion agents.
Industrial furnaces and heat treatment plants
In industrial applications - such as the heat treatment of metals, glass or ceramics - fireclay tiles are used to line furnace interiors or as supports for electrical heating elements. They offer high temperature resistance and protection against mechanical and thermal stress.
Electric pizza ovens and bakery technology
Even in professional kitchen appliances such as electric pizza ovens or bread ovens, fireclay tiles ensure even heat distribution and optimum baking results - comparable to a traditional stone oven.
Special solutions and custom-made products
In addition, fireclay tiles are suitable for individually designed heating systems, e.g. in laboratory ovens, technical test facilities or special machines. Thanks to the flexible shaping, even complex geometries can be realized.
